Conservation bookbinding involves all degrees of repair from very minor work to the full reconstruction of a very badly damaged book.  The aim is to retrieve as much of the existing binding as possible and all work is carried out within the appropriate binding style.  Only the best quality leather, paper and board is used in conservation, including traditional paste and animal glues.

To conserve is 'to keep from harm or loss with a view to the future'. Conservation is a wide discipline encompassing such   considerations as storage, handling and record keeping.   Many types of work is undertaken including leather bound books, cloth bindings, documents, letters and manuscripts on parchment or paper.

I can offer extensive advice on storage, preservation and schemes of refurbishment and repair when necessary.  Initial consultations are free of charge.
